He was then granted naturalisation as a British citizen in 2004. He was accepted as a refugee and given indefinite leave to remain (ILR). Mr Hysaj was an Albanian citizen who claimed asylum in the UK in July 1998, falsely stating he was born in Kosovo, and was therefore a citizen of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), and that he was under 18. The Appellants made false representations in their applications for United Kingdom citizenship.
